Overview Dropbox is seeking a Principal Product Designer to join its remote design team. This role is pivotal in shaping the future of content activation for Dropbox customers. The Principal Designer will define the design vision and oversee execution for Dropbox’s portfolio of products and services. Role Responsibilities The responsibilities of the Principal Designer encompass: Defining and driving the design vision for Dropbox’s multi-product ecosystem, enabling customers to effectively interact with their content. Designing AI-powered experiences aimed at enhancing customer effectiveness without replacing their judgment. This includes ensuring that AI feels like a trusted partner, reducing friction and accelerating decision-making while keeping control with the customer. Leading product areas that are ambiguous and have high impact, guiding projects from strategic framing through execution. The designer will translate emerging AI capabilities into simple, elegant, and trustworthy experiences that are powerful without being unwieldy. Setting exceptionally high standards across interaction design, prototyping, visual quality, and system thinking, ensuring the product remains coherent and unmistakably Dropbox. Collaboratively partnering with leaders from Product, Engineering, Research, Marketing, and Design to shape the direction of the product and prioritize high-impact opportunities, urgently driving desired outcomes. Elevating the design organization by mentoring team members, improving design critiques, and promoting excellence in AI product design. Requirements Candidates are expected to meet the following requirements: Over 12 years of product design experience, with a proven ability to lead complex product initiatives from vision to launch at scale. A portfolio showcasing Principal-level craft, strong product judgment, and customer empathy, demonstrating the ability to create experiences that users trust and improve their workflow. A high level of executional range, capable of moving fluidly from long-term strategy to detailed design elements and implementation quality. A history of influencing senior partners, aligning teams through storytelling, and directing product strategy in fast-paced environments. Experience designing for end-to-end products across varied surfaces and platforms, ensuring coherence in complex user journeys. Strong ability to simplify complex systems into premium, intuitive user experiences. Preferred Qualifications Deep knowledge of designing customer-facing products in areas such as AI, productivity, collaboration, and enterprise software. A voice on how AI should support and interact with human judgment, enhancing productivity without complicating the user experience. Familiarity with design craft in the context of AI, focusing on how to utilize AI tools to elevate creativity and quality. Required Skills The ideal candidate will possess the following durable skills: Awareness: Understanding both self and team dynamics. Compensation This position offers a salary range depending on the employee's location within the U.S. For Zone 2, the salary ranges from $235,600 to $318,800 USD. For Zone 3, salaries range from $209,400 to $283,400 USD. Note that this role is not available in US Zone 1.
